Our Mission

Property tax exemptions can meaningfully lower what a homeowner owes, but the rules are scattered across 51 different statutory and tax-agency sources, written in dense legal language, and changed regularly by state legislatures. Millions of eligible homeowners, seniors, disabled veterans, and surviving spouses never receive the relief they are legally entitled to because official information is difficult to navigate.

ExemptMyHome was founded to bridge this gap by translating complex tax statutes into plain-English eligibility requirements and transparent savings estimates, backed by official citations and county-level Census data.

Editorial & Verification Standards

Because property taxes are a critical financial matter, we hold all content to strict integrity standards:

  • Primary Sources Only: Every exemption rule, income bracket, and deadline is verified directly against state tax statutes, Department of Revenue publications, or official county application forms. We never rely on third-party aggregators or real estate blogs.
  • Citation-Gated Data: Every program displayed on our site carries its official statutory citation (e.g., Texas Tax Code § 11.13, Florida F.S. § 196.031) and the date it was verified.
  • Dual Verification: Exemption amounts and income limits are cross-referenced against at least two official artifacts—typically the statute text and the state's current application PDF.
  • Transparent Mathematical Modeling: Dollar savings are computed using official U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) median tax rates. Every figure is clearly labeled as an estimate and links to our full methodology.

Ongoing Curation & Structural Maintenance

State legislatures frequently revise property tax relief laws. We continuously audit each jurisdiction, updating program rules as new legislation takes effect (such as recent statewide homestead expansions in Texas, Florida, and Indiana). When statutory rules change, program records and date stamps are updated to reflect the new provisions.

Corrections & Assessor Collaboration

We welcome corrections and suggestions from county assessors, tax commissioners, attorneys, and property owners. If you notice a recent legislative amendment or an updated local filing process, please reach out via our contact page. All submissions are reviewed against official statutory documentation within 48 hours.
